An ice dam is a mound of ice that forms at the edge of a roof and prevents melting snow from draining off the roof. Ice damming is a result of fluctuating outdoor temperatures, or when the roof over the attic gets warm enough to melt the underside of the layer of snow on the roof. The water trickles down between the layer of snow and the shingles until it reaches the eave. Because this area extends beyond the side of the house, it stays cold, the water refreezes and gradually grows into a ridge of ice.
Ice dam removal becomes necessary if an ice dam becomes large enough to back up the melted snow behind the dam. If this happens, the water can seep underneath the shingles, drip into the insulation, and down into the ceilings and walls. Moisture that enters your home can lead to growth of mold and mildew.
G-Force has a guy for ice dam removal. We can safely and effectively remove ice damming from your home before it causes damage.
